Lake Havasu pioneer, Bennett Leroy Aebischer passed away peacefully March 8, 2018 at age 95. He is survived by his beloved wife of 73 years, Wilma Aebischer; his children Roeen Steele, Larry Aebischer, Wesley Aebischer, Michael Aebischer, and Annette Packard; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; and countless friends. We will miss his quick wit, his happy heart and his adventurous spirit.
Bennett moved to Lake Havasu City in January 1968 and built his house with his own hands. He never shied away from hard work. As a truck driver for Milne Truck Lines, he delivered most of the freight that came into Havasu for the first 10 years he lived here, including some London Bridge stones. Although he worked out of a 40-foot trailer in unbearable heat, "Ben" did it with a smile and a friendly attitude.
Bennett grew up in a railroad car during the Great Depression because his dad was a railroad man. He met his sweetheart at school and corresponded while he served his country in the South Pacific as a machinist in the Navy during WWII. They were married Christmas Eve, 1944 while he was home on leave. He loved trains, long road trips and carpentry. He loved to make others laugh and always had a funny joke ready to entertain anyone within earshot. He took life's challenges head on and used humor to ease the tension and the pain. Bennett was an active member of The LDS Church on Acoma Blvd., where he was dearly loved for his personable nature.
Funeral services will be in Lake Havasu City, AZ on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 11:00 am with a viewing at 10:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 504 N Acoma Blvd. All are welcome.
