Melford F. Carlson (Mel) passed away October 29, 2018 at the age of 89 at his Lake Havasu home surrounded by family.
He was born January 26, 1929 to David and Hannah Carlson in Swede Home Nebraska, between these two milestones he led a very full life.
Mel enlisted in the Army at the age of 17 and was a World War II Veteran, being truly part of the greatest generation. There was nothing he could not do, and had a great work ethic.
Upon discharge Mel married the love of his life Joyce (Hennings) Carlson June 5, 1949. They started their lives together in Stromsburg, Nebraska where Mel was employed for Barber's Service and his love of mechanics expanded. In 1953 they moved to Chicago and he found his way to owning his own service station.
A new chapter in their lives Mel and Joyce moved to Lake Havasu in July 1972, where he was known as the owner and operator of Ken and Mel's Exxon.
In retirement Mel enjoyed spending time with family and friends, golfing, fishing, traveling, boating, spending summers in Prescott Arizona, and cheering for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Mel leaves behind his children, Joy Hatcher, David (Diane) Carlson, Melodie (Randy) Nichols, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife Joyce, parents David and Hannah Carlson, daughter Mollie, siblings Aaron, Norma, Gearldine, Orpha and Virginia.
Memorial Service is Friday November 30, 2018 1 pm at Mount Olive Lutheran Church.
