Pete “Pops” Otero October 9, 1947 – November 10, 2025
Prescott Valley, Arizona
Pete Otero, affectionately known as “Pops,” passed away peacefully at his home in Prescott Valley, Arizona, on November 10, 2025, at the age of 78.
Pete was born on October 9, 1947, in Williams, Arizona, where he was raised by his mother, Rose Garcia, and his cherished grandparents, Gregorio and Margarita Otero. He graduated from Williams High School in 1966 and proudly enlisted in the United States Army the following year. Pete served on active duty in Berlin from 1967 to 1969 and continued his commitment to his country in the Army Reserve until November 7, 1972. After completing his Reserve service, Pete went on to serve in the Army National Guard until 1989, continuing the dedication and discipline that defined his military career. During his service, he earned recognition as a Sharpshooter and Rifle Expert and received both the National Defense Service Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal.
After completing his military service, Pete married the late Eusebia Otero. Together, they built a life and raised two sons, Theodore and Daniel. Pete was known for his remarkable work ethic and wide range of skills. Throughout his career, he worked for the Arizona Department of Transportation, the Grand Canyon Railway, and the City of Prescott. His dedication and integrity were an inspiration to his sons and later to his grandsons, all of whom proudly carry forward the strong work ethic he exemplified.
In 2005, Pete and Eusebia moved to Prescott Valley to be closer to their sons and grandchildren. Although health challenges led him into early retirement in 2010, Pete continued to find joy and purpose in the company of his family. He was especially proud of his boys and adored spending time watching his grandchildren play sports, sharing stories of their achievements, and entertaining anyone nearby with his signature humor and charm.
Pete is survived by his brother, Rueben Otero, and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Otero; his son, Daniel Otero, and daughter-in-law, Gina Otero. He is lovingly remembered by nine grandsons — Michael, Stephen, Damian, Daniel, David, Ayden, Katum, Jacob, Nick, and Trevor — and nine great-grandchildren: Jaylin, Karter, Alexa, Paisley, Raylynn, IslaRose, Aurora, Matteo, and Malakai. He also leaves behind many beloved brothers- and sisters-in-law, along with numerous nieces and nephews who adored him.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Eusebia; his son, Theodore Otero; his mother, Rose Garcia; and his grandparents, Gregorio and Margarita Otero.
A funeral Mass will be held on December 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church: 900 West Grant Ave. Williams AZ 86046 . The family welcomes all who knew and loved Pete to join them at the Sultana Theatre directly following the mass: 301 Historic Route 66 Williams, Arizona 86046 in celebrating his life, his stories, and the love he shared so generously.
Pete “Pops” Otero will be remembered for his strength, kindness, humor, and unwavering devotion to his family. His legacy lives on in the laughter, hard work, and cherished memories he leaves with all who were blessed to know him.
