Richard L. Dodson (Big D) was born on November 25, 1949 to Virgil and Betty Arlene Dodson of Waurika, OK. Richard went to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on August 18, 2020. Richard was blessed with an amazing athletic talent in several sports. He is a graduate of Tucson High School. Tucson High School inducted him into their Hall of Fame in track, wrestling and football. Richard received a full scholarship to the University of Arizona playing defensive football. He ultimately achieved his goal of becoming an NFL football player for the Denver Broncos. He is a retired Maricopa County Detention Officer. He enjoyed watching sports with friends, golf, traveling, and being the life of the party. His heart was called to several charity benefits from raising money, visiting nursing homes, speaking with youth about education, and sports. His favorite was spending time with veterans and feeding every homeless person he came across. Richard is survived by his beloved Karen, daughter Jacqueline (Josh) Micale, daughter Arlene Dodson, granddaughter Natayla, grandson Jadon, sister Kathy McBride and several nieces, nephews, and too many in-laws to list. Proceeded in death by his parents, brother Virgil and sister Becky. Service arrangements are pending. Donations can be made to your favorite charity on his behalf.
