Obituary

Victor Johan Marinussen, age 94, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather of Fort Mohave, Arizona went home to be with the Lord while surrounded by his loved ones on Sunday, December 3, 2017. Victor was born on August 11, 1923 in Surabaya, Indonesia to Johan and Irah Marinussen. He joined the Royal Dutch Navy at the age of 18 and fought in World War II. He was a prisoner of war for three and a half years, during which he nearly lost his life. After the war, Victor married the love of his life, Edith Tismeer, on February 24, 1948 and fathered eight children, four sons (still residing in The Netherlands) and four daughters who reside in the United States. After serving in the Royal Dutch Navy for 30 years, he retired and moved his family to the United States where he first resided in California and finally settled in Arizona for his remaining years. Victor was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. His family was his pride and he spoke often of the many grandchildren and great-grandchildren he so adored. His sense of humor was one of the many things we enjoyed about him. Victor had no problem being the object of many jokes, which were all done in love when the family got together. He was also generous to anyone in need. He would give the shirt off his back to whoever would ask. He had a heart for the Lord, and the moment someone was in need, his hands would fold in prayer. He loved attending the First Baptist Church of Fort Mohave and enjoyed the many friends he made. His loss left a huge void as we lost the pillar of our family. The many memories we made will be cherished in our hearts forever. Victor was preceded in death by his daughter, Peggy Wilson and his grandson, Joey Heredero. He is survived by his loving wife, Edith (Tismeer) Marinussen of Fort Mohave, 4 sons, 3 daughters, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces. A celebration of Victor's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday December 15, 2017 at Redemption Hill Calvary Chapel, 1881 West Acoma Blvd., Lake Havasu City, Arizona, with Pastors Charles Short and Ray Carter offering words of comfort and inspiration. Military Honors will be conducted at Lake Havasu Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were placed in the care of Mohave Memorial Funeral and Cremation Services.
